Fletcher Fund for Equality and Education Presents Inaugural Scholarship to Mobile County High School Graduate

The Fletcher Fund for Equality and Education – a nonprofit focusing on providing scholarships, mentorship, and other critical support to students from underserved communities seeking higher education – recently presented its inaugural college scholarship to Mobile County high school graduate, Daisy Ferrell.

The event, dubbed Daisy Ferrell Day, took place May 12th at Mattie T. Blount High School in Prichard, Ala. Curtis Moorer, executive director of the Fletcher Fund, presented the scholarship to Ferrell. The funds include Ferrell’s entire tuition to Dartmouth College, a private Ivy League research university located in Hanover, New Hampshire, and a monthly stipend for living expenses.

Ferrell’s achievements, which helped garner the scholarship, include maintaining a 4.0 grade point average, scoring a 29 on the ACT, and serving as the 2021 class valedictorian, senior class president, and cheerleading captain.

“Daisy was most certainly a standout among our applicants for this year’s scholarship,” Moorer said. “She hopes to one day help marginalized and impoverished communities receive quality healthcare.”

This coincides with the mission of Christian Fletcher and Amber Fletcher, co-founders of the Fletcher Fund. Christian Fletcher is CEO of LifeBrite, which operates LifeBrite Laboratories, LifeBrite Hospital Group, and a pair of rural hospitals, LifeBrite Community Hospital of Early in Blakely, Ga. and LifeBrite Community Hospital of Stokes in Danbury, N.C.

“You displayed all of the qualities we look for in an ideal Fletcher Fund scholarship recipient,” Christian Fletcher said to Ferrell in a prerecorded video aired at the event.  “We’re proud to have you as our first-ever recipient, and we’ll be there to support you along the way.”

Ferrell received two additional scholarships at the event. City Councilman Derrick Griffin from District 3 in Prichard, Ala. presented Ferrell with a $2,500 scholarship and the key to the city. Dr. Reginald Crenshaw honored Ferrell with a scholarship from the Mattie T. Blount Alumni Association.

“Daisy, you’re a stellar student,” Fletcher Fund co-founder Amber Fletcher said in the presentation video, “and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
